Negative sentence(ひていぶん）

　

Making negative sentences is more difficult than making question sentences because of verbs' conjugation. Let's see all the verbs' conjugations which I wrote down in the tense section.

　

1. be-verb sentence　　　　　    affirmative　　　　　　　　　　　　                                negative

present tense(am,is,are)＝　〜です(desu)/〜である(dearu) → 〜ではありません(~dewaarimasen)/〜でない（~denai)

　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　＊〜である　has more declared meaning than 〜です.

past tense（was,were） ＝〜でした(desita)/ 〜であった(deatta) →〜ではありませんでした(~dewaarimasendesita)/〜でなかった　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　                                                                                                                                                                                                      　(~denakatta)

　

future tense（will be）　＝　〜でしょう(deshou)/〜であろう(dearou)→　〜（で）ないでしょう(~denaideshou)/〜（で）ないであろう

　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　(~denaidearou)

　

for example (green is negative)

たろうは　だいくです。→　たろうは　だいくではありません。

(tarouwa daiku desu)                                (tarouwa daiku dewaarimasen)

　

たろうは　おんがくかでした。→　たろうは　おんがくかではありませんでした。

 (tarouwa ongakuka deshita)                       (tarouwa ongakuka dewaarimasendeshita)

　

あすは　はれる　でしょう。→　あすは　はれないでしょう。

(asuwa hareru deshou)　　　　　　　　　(asuwa harenaideshou)

　

　

2. general verb

　

let's take one verb for example

　 みる(miru)   watch

                                                              affirmative                                                            negative

present tense (watch)＝　みる(miru)/みます(mimasu)　→　　みない(minai)/みません(mimasen)

　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　　＊みます（mimasu)  is more polite than　みる（miru).

present progressive (am/is/are watching)＝みている(miteiru) /みています(miteimasu)→みていない(miteinai)/みていません(miteimasen

                                      ＊みています　is more polite than みている.

past tense(watched) ＝みた(mita)/みました(mimashita)　→　　みなかった(minakatta)/みませんでした(mimasendeshita)

                                      ＊みました　is more polite than みた.

past progressive( was/were watching) ＝みていた(miteita)/みていました(miteimashita)→みていなかった(miteinakatta)/みていませんでした

                                      ＊みていました　is more polite than みていた.

future tense( will watch) ＝　みるでしょう(mirudeshou) →　みないでしょう(minaideshou)
