Verbs(どうし)

Verb is a word to express  action such as eat, go and write. In Japanese most verbs end with u sound.   If I say more, there are verbs end with ru sound and u sound.

1. verbs end with ru sound.

みる  (miru)    watch                    たべる  (taberu)    eat

きる  (kiru)    put on                     くる (kuru)  come

こたえる (kotaeru)  answer          しんじる (sinjiru)   believe

2.verbs end with u sound.

いく  (iku)    go                            あそぶ (asobu)    play

かく (kaku)    write                   うごく (ugoku)    move

きく (kiku)    listen                    さく (saku)    bloom

I think you don't have to remember what I will say from now but it might be useful if you just know that. Like English there are intransitive verbs (vi) and transitive verbs(vt) in Japanese also.  Intransitive verbs don't have objects and express the subject's action itself. Transitive verbs have direct objects and affect the objects.

1.intransitive verbs

              example sentence usage

さく  (saku)  bloom   →   はなが さく (hanaga saku)      flowers bloom.

ほえる (hoeru)  bark →いぬが ほえる(inuga hoeru)  dogs bark.

2.transitive verbs

みる (miru) watch →わたしは てれびを みる   (watashiwa terebio miru)    I  watch TV.

よむ (yomu) read →わたしは ほんを よむ     (watashiwa hono yomu)   I  read a book.

In Japanese there is also a verb as the same usage as be-verbs.  There is no change by the subjects like English.

for example

I am a student.  → わたしは がくせい です。(watashiwa gakusei desu)

She is a student. → かのじょは がくせい です。 (kanojowa gakusei desu)

No matter which subjects , in Japanese  we use  です(desu) for the present tense.
